For JIRA server versions prior to 7.x, JQL Tricks licenses needs to be renewed every year for continued functionality. Upgrades and supports are part of the licensing costs. From JIRA7 onwards, licenses are perpetual and follows Marketplace Licensing rules. You still need to renew the license for continued support and for future upgrades.
