J-Protect plugin

Ever wondered how to password protect certain administration pages in JIRA from the thousand administrators you have? Or grant access to a user to most admin pages except a few?

J-Protect plugin is designed to protect selected pages in JIRA by configuring passwords for URL patterns. You can configure different passwords for different URLs and share it with the limited number of people whom you trust!

It basically gives you additional control over Administrators and System Administrators without exposing all or no admin features.

Note: This works only for webwork actions for now. In the future, we hope to extend the plugin to cover more things and also restrict pages to selected groups, roles etc based on different rules.

Installation

The plugin can be installed via UPM from Atlassain Marketplace. See https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/UPM/Installing+Add-ons for more details.

Configuration

Following are the steps to configure J-Protect.
  • Secure a valid license via UPM for the plugin
  • Go to Administration > System > J-Protect
  • Use the "Add Row" button to add one or more URLs and corresponding passwords as shown below.

  • Click on "Save Configuration" to save the changes.

And you are done!

Usage

Once the configurations are saved, you will be prompted for password when a protected page is visited.

And of course, you will see an error if you enter the invalid password!

Have a safe ride!

Oh, looking for some example URLs? See the below Screenshot! Feel free to ask us if you need help with more of those.
